How to Get Pinterest Ads Access as an Agency

Getting account access to your client’s platforms is among the first steps taken to support their advertising initiatives. Although it is should be clear-cut and straight-forward, getting access isn’t always that way.

I’m going to provide you with step-by-step directions on how you can gain access to your client’s Pinterest Ads accounts and then some key types for account navigation and sticky points.

Getting Access to Pinterest Ads

Here are instructions that you can copy/paste to provide directly to your client:

Log in to Pinterest and navigate to the Ads section in the top left corner.
Once in the Ads section, click on the down arrow next to your name and select “View account settings.”
Next, click the “Add People” button.
Enter one email address and then select “Add to account”, noting that the must already have a business profile to be added.
Select the access rights.

Switching Accounts

To switch from one account to another, from anywhere in Ads Manager, you would instead click on “Viewing: Your Account” and then “Shared with you” to select the other account you’d like to use.

Limitations

I recently learned the hard way with shared ad account access, regardless of the level, you cannot create Carousel pins for Carousel campaigns or pin engagement audiences. Either the original account owner must create them or they must give you the login information for you to be able to create them yourself under their login. If that happens, to access their account, from the Pinterest homepage, you should click on the three dots in the top right and then select “Switch accounts”.

Also, if you want to create audiences based off of website data, if the client hasn’t done it already, you have to work with them to make sure the site is claimed.
