Elon Musk’s new high-speed transit tunnel is just about done, he says

boring company tunnel

Good news, Los Angeles. Elon Musk is in the news again, and this time, it’s not for calling a heroic diver a pedophile. No, Musk revealed that his first high-speed transit test tunnel is nearly set, and it’s opening this year.

In true Musk fashion, the Boring Company’s founder tweeted the news late Sunday, simply stating “the first tunnel is almost done” and “opens Dec. 10.” Musk went on to explain that the Boring Company will host an opening event on its launch, and free rides will be provided to the public the following day. The tunnel is located under Los Angeles County’s city Hawthorne, and its top speed will be 155 mph.

The upcoming tunnel is a test tunnel designed for “the research and development of The Boring Company’s tunneling and public transportation systems,” according to the company’s official website. The tunnel runs from SpaceX’s headquarters, turns west at 120th Street, and then runs two miles underneath the street. Musk’s business ultimately aims to bring about a “Hyperloop” that would “enable rapid transit across densely populated regions,” allowing travel from New York City to Washington, D.C. in 30 minutes.

Musk’s announcement comes just three hours after he declared Twitter the “Dark Souls of social media,” compared Reddit to Bloodborne, and said Instagram was a lot like The Legend of Zelda. He also joked about buying and deleting Fortnite (as of yet, Musk has not bought nor deleted the hit battle royale title).
